In Development

ERT is engaged in the development of a wide range of novel ecological research. These projects are at different stages of development, but we are always interested to discuss our plans and ideas with colleagues in other organisations and sectors.

  Current research developments include:
• Human population growth and the work of international environmental conventions
The major international environmental conventions (CBD, Ramsar, Bonn, FCCC, CITES etc) implement a range of solutions to identified problems through agreed country-specific and regional action plans. How many of these plans are explicitly linked to work on the impacts of human population growth. How many of the signatory nations have population policies in place. ERT is developing work to quantify these issues.

Science into action: identifying best practice in commissioning and undertaking applied ecological research
With a variety of colleagues in organisations across the conservation world, we are leading the development of a body of work aimed at improving how science is used in conservation action and policy.
• Hotspots of conservation capacity need
We are currently developing a project concept to develop conservation capacity indices for countries around the world. These will be used in conjunction with biodiversity hotspots to identify areas of greatest need in relation to capcity bulding.
